Work package 3: Forest catchment ecosystem services and sustainability indicators

This work package evaluates the integrated immediate and long term impacts of land use changes on multiple indicators of environmental sustainability. These indicators include soil carbon and nutrient balances, carbon and nutrient transport to waterbodies and proxy indicators for species diversity.

Land use changes may occur due to local forestry measures or large scale land use planning. We will use advanced mathematical and physical modelling tools to calculate nutrient cycles in catchments. By this method we will also estimate the effect of climate change on indicators. End result will be high resolution maps of areas that are especially sensitive to changes.
